Credit scores, on the scale assigned by FICO, range from 300 to 850. Who has an 850 credit score and what canyou do to get one? Less than 1 percent of the population has a credit score above 800, so it's very unlikely you will have an 850 credit score. However, if your credit score is above 720, you will probably still receive the best rates. The reason your score can greatly vary between credit bureaus is because not all lenders and/or credit cards report to all three.
You can have some credit cards reporting only to Experian and Equifax while the others are reporting to TransUnion and Equifax but not Experian. That’s why it’s important to find cards that DO report to ALL 3 credit bureaus when looking to apply for new cards cause not all of them do.
Lenders throw out the low and high scores and use the middle one.

Indeed. 99.9% of places out there sell the generic “consumer” credit score which is often MUCH higher than your real “fico score” is. This gives people a false sense of security and frankly misleads them.
ZERO lenders use the “consumer score”. The “consumer” score is 100% garbage. The ONLY real score that matters is the FICO score. It’s the same score your lenders will look at. There is ONLY one place to get your FICO score and that is MYFICO(dot)COM. And it’s never free.

Indeed. Some employers and even some landlords do credit checks to determine weather or not they want to rent to or hire someone.
what is this I have …
what is this I have heard that if you don’t have a good credit score you cant get a job at some places? Some one tell me a little bit about this, is it like a trust issue.
Most ppl think they …
Most ppl think they are in the 700′s when in fact they are closer to the 650-699 range, credit scores are not definite by any means, are were never meant to be, that’s what ppl don’t understand, you can only generate a true score when a lender examines your credit report, and they can use that number to base your loan variables on, other than that, those “free credit report” scores you pay extra for when you get a free report, that is all bullshit.
When I read up on …
When I read up on Fair Isaac, their credit scoring only went to 750, I don’t know where 800′s and 900′s come from, they must be made up. Also, not everyone uses the same exact credit scoring model, that is why your Experian my say you are 700, your TransUnion may say 690 and your Equifax may come in at 720. You will never have perfect credit because the rules are not written in the consumer’s favor, even if you close down credit lines, it still screws up your score, not help it.

@calamaty Thanks. It does. I’ll try that.
@dionreedsamurai I …
@dionreedsamurai I used to think like you but sooner or later you’re going to want a home or car and that’s where credit is essential. My advice is to get a credit card (just one) and make small purchases with it but have the cash to pay it off in one payment. Your credit will establish in no time. Also, off the subject, open a savings account and drop in a few bucks in it you’ll thank yourself in the long run. Contribute at least $10 a month (or more) it’ll come in handy if you need it.
@EricaYE6 An 850? …
@EricaYE6 An 850? well that takes time but for rich folks its almost standard. The important thing is to maintain a good score. Pay your bills on time don’t get too many credit cards (2 are great) don’t check your credit score than twice or even once a month, it affects it. The way my ex (banker) explained it to me is to pay your bills with your card and just pay off the whole balance as you normally would. Buy something but have the money to pay it off right away.Worked for me. Hope this helps.
